RATIO
Ratio can be defined as the comparison between two amounts or quantities.
Ratio is often represented with : symbol like the diagram above. This symbol is used to separate the numbers values.
Ratios are used to give information on a bigger scale.
Example :
In a class of 100 students, the number of girls to boys is 4:1. Find the total number of girls in the class.
This question simply says that for every four girls in the class, there is one boy. We can find the total number of girls by adding the total ratio (1+4) and then using the girls ratio over the total * 100 (total number of students)
Finding Values = Ratio of the category
* 100

Added total of both ratios
Number of girls
1+4 = 5 (Total Ratio)
Girls ratio = 4. Therefore 4/5 of the class are girls.
To find number of girls 4/5 * 100 = 80
If there are 80 girls then there are 20 boys in the class.
Note : Most times ratios are not to scale, they are used to have an idea of the difference in the two quantities
